To raise awareness of the growing issues of addiction, a primary chronic disease of the brain reward, motivation and related circuitry, rather than a behavioral disorder.
The Foundation
The Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation is a registered 501c3 charitable organization. The mission of the Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation is to raise awareness of the growing issues surrounding addiction, work with our community using programs geared toward addiction prevention, and help support in the treatment of this disease.
The Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation Annual Golf Tournament occurs to celebrate a beautiful life lost to this disease. This event, now in its 9th year, is the major fundraiser that continues to support proven prevention programs and special recovery support to serve our communities through our partners on a perpetual basis. Subsequent golf tournaments and various other events further support our mission each and every year.
Finding avenues to strengthen character in our youth, providing for stronger and longer lasting support systems within our communities, and creating effective and truthful education are current focus points. With enormous gratitude, we welcome any sponsors, donors, and attendees to register online or fill out a mail-in form.
We want to thank all our participants, sponsors, volunteers, partners, and donators that made this tournament one to remember! We not only met our financial goal for installation of a putting green at the Horizon’s Village Sanborn Campus in Christopher’s memory (rendering image below)! We actually exceed it, which was just amazing. From the beautiful day of golf, to our silent and live auctions which featured all kinds of great merchandise, gift certificates autographed sports memorabilia, as well as the life size Josh Allen cutout that’s going to watching over our lucky winner’s bar-man-cave during this coming season! To all of the great prizes, fabulous food (that Cheesecake was killer), we hope that you all had as wonderful a time as we did. And, please know that this kind of out-pouring, generosity of time and money continues this legacy, of not only this foundation in Chris Maloney’s memory, but that of our partnership(s) that continually help families and people in need. Below is the finished, proud product on ribbon cutting September 30th 2025!

This year’s tournament funds raised will go to Terrace House at Horizon Village: Men’s Lounge & Family Room interior updates 2026! Terrace House at Horizon Village is the first stop to bigger and brighter days ahead. We are blessed to be able to make it a warmer place for everyone who steps through its doors. This is the perfect, new commitment and fundraising reason for this year’s 9th Annual Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation Golf Tournament!
This year’s tournament proudly supports The Chris Maloney Legacy Foundation and its generous commitment to creating a dedicated Men’s Lounge within Horizon’s care facilities. This new space will offer a calm, welcoming environment for our male patients providing room for meaningful counseling groups, quiet downtime, and important conversations with loved ones. It will also provide a private, comfortable setting for family meetings and supportive discussions during treatment.
The Men’s Lounge and Family Room is approximately 32’x62’ or 1984 square feet. Furniture needs to be in line with our regulations for NYS. They have strict policies on the type of furniture we need in our inpatient and residential facilities due to how easily we need to clean, disinfect, etc. The approximate cost for fully furnishing the lounge is $20,000.
To honor Chris’s life, dedication, and courage, a special plaque will be displayed in the lounge. It will share Chris’s story and highlight his unwavering commitment to his own recovery, as well as the hard work he put into supporting others along the way.
Your participation makes a powerful, lasting impact. Funds raised through this golf outing will directly help bring this space to life, ensuring our patients have access to environments that foster connection, healing, and hope. These spaces are essential to the recovery journey, and your involvement directly supports Horizon’s mission of compassionate, person-centered care.
Thank you again for continuing to work with our teams. We appreciate you choosing Horizon and appreciate your trust in us while keeping Chris’s legacy alive.
Terrace House was the first stop in Chris’ recovery and remains one of the most vivid and traumatic memories as a mom of an addict. That afternoon, back in June of 2014, I got a call at work from Chris that Terrace House at Horizon Village had a bed available. At this point we had 2 horrific experiences of withdrawal in our home, so the relief that there would be medical assistance in getting Chris detoxed and ready to enter a recovery program was indescribable. However, the drive down the 33 was not as much filled with hope, but the fear of the unknown, the challenges, the pain, the sickness that had to come first before being able to think about recovery.
We arrived at Terrace House at Horizon Village, met by very kind triage staff. I sat down in the lobby waiting for them to take my son to his floor. When they gave Chris and I a moment to talk, the look in his eyes was that of conflict, shame and defeat and voiced that he didn’t think he could do it. I took him out to the car for some privacy and told him we would sit there as long as it took for him to be “ready” But, I stressed the choices were, go back in or find someplace else to go, because he couldn’t come home with me. Nothing can prepare you for that conversation. Luckily he made the very brave choice to stay. That drive back down the 33 to a life that would never be the same was the loneliest drive of my life.
Fast forward to today! A newly renovated Terrace House at Horizon Village and the opportunity for our foundation to furnish a Men’s Lounge and “Family” Room. A room that would give someone like myself a place to sit with a loved one, in private, in a warm and inviting setting, to encourage each other to be strong on what lies ahead. Maybe that drive back down the 33, and the days I spent worrying about how the process was going, would have been softened by the experience of having a private, safe place to talk, rather than my car; that my son was somewhere that didn’t feel was like a punishment, but more of a gift, a blessing, a new beginning. – Deb Armitage Maloney
